Chrysanthemum - Soil preparation: Ground preparation should be started in the fall when the garden is put to bed for the winter. Compost material should be dug into the soil and left in a rough state until spring. April is a good month in which to begin preparing the soil for planting. Using a cultivator, apply 2 ounces of Super Phosphate per square yard and work well into the soil. Leave the soil to settle down until 1 week before planting out (about the end of May) then apply 4 ounces of 7-7-7 fertilizer per square yard and rake in evenly Now is the time to use information from your fall soil analysis to be sure your soil will be at its best. This preparation is desirable for flower beds where other species are grown as well.
