Judging in progress, both top pictures... Decisions, decisions!  Great to have accredited judges who can come from other clubs.

Of course, Roy, extreme right, is a stalwart from our own society.                                  ============>

Blooms are subjected to intense scrutiny, so that only worthy entries get the ribbons.

<=== Ross and Margaret capably keeping records.  They were two of many valued volunteers  needed in events like this one.

Lots of walking and bending.  With the hard floors, it is best to attend these events with  your most comfortable shoes.

Theresa was taking all the 'spare' blooms after staging by each entrant was complete, and making arrangements.  Even without any 'background' material, she did a superb job as you can see with the two photos below.  What a great talent for spacing and a good eye for colour!     ======>

All blooms were auctioned at the end of the show - and these arrangements commanded a premium price!

It's always amazing to see the diversity of shapes and colours in these blooms, yet every year, hybridizers keep coming up with more.  The blooms which you see here, both chrysanthemum and Dahlia, are exhibition cultivars, most of which you cannot get at your local nursery.

You can certainly search the internet sites and purchase your own, and the prices are usually high, and accompanied by the costs of shipping and handling.

The better way, is to join the Canadian Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society (a mere $20) and be able to benefit from the sales, the swaps, the newsletters, and the experience and information available, even if you are too distant to attend meetings.

Obviously, only a few of the hundreds of blooms in the show could be captured here.  However, the show is a yearly event, always in the latter half of September.  Why not leave a memo to your calendar to try your best to attend in 2008?  Even better, if you have a bit of space in the sun, and a bit of time, why not try your hand at growing some of these beauties yourself?

In the meantime, we hope you have enjoyed this armchair tour!
